17 by writer-director Kosara Mitić is world premiering at the Berlin International Film Festival 2026 in the Perspectives Competition. The first feature, which was awarded at CineLink Work in Progress 2025, delves into the raw, unforgiving reality of being seventeen.

Through fierce realism and with profound empathy for its 17-year-old protagonist Sara, the film raises questions usually kept behind closed doors. Trauma at seventeen is rarely visible but can leave lasting effects on both body and mind. 17 confronts these hidden struggles head-on, exploring how unspoken pain shapes young lives while highlighting the vital role of female friendship as a source of support, understanding, and resilience.

SYNOPSIS
Seventeen-year-old Sara is hiding a secret during a school trip. When the trip spirals out of control and she witnesses her friend Lina being sexually assaulted, the two girls try to break the cycle of casual violence. This seals an everlasting bond between them.

Kosara Mitić is a Macedonian director and screenwriter. Her debut feature film, 17, was developed at Midpoint Feature Launch and was awarded this year at the CineLink Work in Progress at the Sarajevo Film Festival. She is also an alumna of Berlinale Talents.
